- In olden times the people sowed more potatoes than they do now and had better crops. The land was tilled by spades as the farms were smaller. There was a very large population then and the potato crop was their principle food. They made different kinds of bread from them. They also made starch from the large potatoes. The potatoes had to be dried by the sun then grated into a piece(continues on next page)
