    1. Long ago a priest was chased from Alter. When he was saying mass a few miles out of the town of Glenties they came and hunted him. That is why it is called Alter and no other name will take its place.
    2. Long ago when the priests would be going to say mass they would have to go into the mountains for fear of people chasing them.
