  1. In the town-land of Dysart there was a school about eighty years ago and was roofed with thatch. It was a National school. The teacher was by the name of Patrick Gallagher and lived in Dysart. The children wrote on slates not as nowadays. The subjects were taught in English. There was no desks but boxes and chairs. It was the one teacher who taught in the school until a law was passed that they could not teach (without) unless they had a certain number of scholars.
