  1. There was an old school in Gortnacart. It was built with stone and it had a thatched roof, and no floor only an earthen floor. The teacher that was in it was by the name of Mrs. Herron, she came from Loughfad and lived in house convenient to the school. Their was all wooden desks and a stool for the teacher to sit on. It was all english was teached in it because the teacher did not know any Irish. They wrote on paper.
