  1. Diseases and pains are many and varied. Common in the country are the following, Rheumatism, sciatica, measles, mumps, whooping cough, consumption, coughs and many other kinds of diseases and pains. 1. Salts is supposed to be one of the best preventatives of rheumatism and anyone affected with rhumatic pains gets relief by the constant taking of salt.
    2. The only way of getting free of sciatica is by having the affected part burned.
    3. The cure which is recommended for measles is whiskey and the duce [juice] of nettles.
