  1. About a quarter of a mile from my home, there is a forge. The forge is situated at a cross-road. The black-smith's name is Thomas Ivory. This family have been smiths for many years. The forge is covered with iron. The floor is boarded.
There is one fireplace in this forge. The smith shoes horses and asses. The smith mends farm implements. The smith shoes cart wheels in the open air. The people of this locality believe that forge water cures warts.
The doors of some forges are shaped like a horse shoe but the door of this forge is ordinary. This smith is looked up on as being very strong.
