    Years ago a peasant woman had a very handsome baby of two years.

    Years ago a peasant woman had a very handsome baby of two years.
    The woman had to go to work in the fields so she could not leave the child at home.
    The steward said that she could bring him out to the field and that the men would make a bed for him. All this was done and the baby was put in the next field under a tree.
    Nobody saw the witch who came over to the baby took him and put an ungly fairy in its stead.
    Then she was gone. One of the men came down to the tree to have a look at the baby but when he saw who it was he ran up to the steward and told him.
    "If we tell the woman she will get hysterical" said the steward to the rest of the men. "Come on down and we'll build a fire around it."
    So down they went and they made a fire around the cradle and a little opening.
    When the fire was at its highest the witch rushed in through the gap, grabbed the fairy and left
