    Long ago when the Abbey in Tipperary was Catholic it was inhabited by about twenty Monks. One evening in late September when one of the Monks was wrapped in prayer he was slain by some unknown assasin. For years after that brutal murder was on the lips of the inhabitants of the surrounding district. The majority of the people said it was an English planter but it was never proved. A year later on that same September evening the Monk was seen praying on the spot where he was slain. This news interested the people and from September to September their interest was growing rapidly for each year the monk was seen.

    It was late one night began old Henry Connor, when a friend a myself were coming home from a card-school held in farmer Jone’s house. We were just passing an ancient fort when we heard the most eerie cry we ever heard. Our blood froze in our veins and standing stockstill we waited and listened. Again that unerving wail floated from the black depths of the fort. “If that thing happens again I am going in there to investigate” muttered my companion. At that moment a woman dressed in black floated past
