  1. An Old Story
    The most famous tradesman in Ireland in olden times was the Goban Saor. He is reputed to have built a great many of our ancient castles and round towers.
    A King sent for him to build a castle for him. When it was finished, the King was afraid anyone else would have as fine a castle. So he cast the Goban into prison. One day, the King was talking to him and the Goban said :- As good as you think your castle is, see, this wa[ll] is not straight. The Goban stood with his back to the wall, and told the King to do the sa[?]. The King did so and, he imagined the wall was hanging out over his head. The Goban told him, he had a tool at home, and if he got it, he could straighten the wall. The King would not consent to let him go. But he sent his son. The son arrived at the Goban house and told what he wanted. The Goban wife, knew that her Husband was in jail. She opened a "ben" and said; 'come here, and lif[t]
