    One of them went through Lear and Drumhirk to Lakefield. He saw a man named Duignan in the distance making hay and he went towards him. He asked him for a bit to eat. The young man gave him what he had for himself for dinner which consisted of potatoes and buttermilk. As he was eating he saw a crowd of British soldiers coming up the fields. Duignan told him to sit down. He did so and Duignan turned a hand-shaken upon him.
    The British came over to the young man and asked him if he had any rebel and he said 'no', they turned up every 'hand-shaken' that was in the field except two one that the rebel was under and a nother.
    One fo the soldiers came up to Duignan and said you may thank your God that you have no man here or I would put this through you pointing out his sword.
    Then they started for the road again. One soldier came back
