The poem "Dear Old Inishowen" was written by Alexander Reid who taught in Glassalts N.S., about the years 1868 - 1872. He was a native of Glentogher district He was a deeply intellectual man of modest bearing; a great lover of Nature and always appeared to be absorbed in deep thought. He spent his leisure hours mountain climbing; trout fishing in the river; searching for birds' nest or a rutting in the glen (Cregnahorna)
He resigned his schoolmastership and emigrated to Boston, Mass. He found employment in the correspondence and book-keeping department of a large brewing establishment. Afterwards he acquired a part ownership in the concern and became fairly well to do.
