  1. Long ago the people had no light as there is now. They used to make a light themselves. They used to make a rush light. They used to get rushes and steep them in grease. When dry the inside of the rush formed a wick and it would show a little light. They would only light them when they would be eating or reading. They also used to get little strips of "paideog". They used to get a bit of a rag and wind it very tight. Then they used to steep it in melted fat. This was the best light of all.
