  1. Ere last night three weeks ago. I received a letter of a shower of old hags. that was to fall next week Every tear that fell from the back of my head, would split seven sods of solid turf in the ground or turn a mill. I put my two shin bones in my pocket and my head under my arm. and I ran for the space of ten miles where I met John Jerbs an old coach man. driving fifteen dead horses under an empty mail coach loaded with fifteen hairy mill stones, and three hairy magpye's that was black in the face drinking tea. I asked him could he give any information of a shower of hags that was to fall next week. He said that he could not but to go to John Mangs. That he lived at the sign of the "Twelve Flying Jack Asses." and that he would tell me all about that. I went to John Mangs. and I asked him could he give me any information of a shower of old hags that was to fall next week. He told me he couldn't, but not to go until he would show me some of his curiosities. The first thing he showed me. was a man running away with a sack of chimneys on his back. That man ran away and fell over a wall forty five feet high, and broke the lip lap of his liver against a pawn broker's wig. The next thing he showed me was a man and his son threshing beams. One of those beams leaped through a wall forty five feet thick, and shot a
