  1. Mr Tuite was the landlord of this district in olden times. The first of the Tuites came to Ireland with Strongbow. They landed in Athlone and some of them fought at the siege of Athlone against St. Ruth. They were very good people. Every year they killed a beef, mutton, and a pork for their labourers and their families and they all got five shillings for a Christmas box.
Old Mrs. Tuite used to go out in a dog-cart and give clothes to the poor people.
Mr. Tuite was the landlord of the barony of Rath-con-Rath.
