Near Mearscourt in Co. Westmeath there is an old cave, on a farm belonging to a man named Mahon. This man now resides in Ballymore. There is a large flag stone leading into it. You would have to lift up the flag to get into the cave and you would see a beautiful room inside. This man named Mahon was in company with a friar one day near the cave. They went in. They saw an old stone altar, with a gold chalice, a mass book, and other valuable things on it.
Half a mile away from this cave there is another one connected by means of a passage underground.
