And never since that dreadful day
    For us a bitter time
From its holy altars torn and ruined
    Rose up that chant sublime
Nought but jackdaw's caw is heard
    Or the sighing of winds
    In through its windows
    Where mournful ivy twines
As I look upon this ruin
My heart cries out with pain
And asks how long until our land
    Shall hear those choirs again?
