  1. The food in olden times consisted of, thick milk and a yellow meal cake, for breakfast. Potatoes and sour-milk, for dinner. For supper, they used to fill a big pot with water, and place it on the fire. When the water used to be boiling, they used to pour yellow meal into it, and stir it with a stick, until it used to get into thick gruel. Then each one of the family, used to get a plate of that for his supper. They made the meal-cake, by mixing boiled potatoes with yellow meal, and wetting it with water.
