  1. In ancient times Catholic teachers had to teach by the hedge. Near Feenagh there was a hedge school. Mr Daniel O'Sullivan was the master. Previously he was a poet. Boys who attended this hedge school turned out to be very clever men afterwards, for example, my grand uncle James Casy and his companions named Thomas and John O'Brien of Kells Dromcollogher, passed into the excise, which then was considered a first class position.
