  1. It is said, that the houses long ago were built with mud and thatched with rushes. There was a big chimney at one end of the house, and there was a turf always burning in it. In most of the houses there was no room, but one big kitchen, and the beds in the corners. In most of the houses, the windows were very small, only one pane, and that was never made to open.
