  1. When the holy family were escaping from Herods soldiers, and were gone a long distance, night was closing in on them, and the soldiers near them, but the soldiers lost their way. A cuckoo rose up into the air and began cookooing, and led the soldiers close to the Holy Family. Then the cookcoo stopped to take a rest on a beech tree, and the soldiers thinking that she was not going to carry on killed her. It is said that the Blessed Virgin cursed the cuckoo and that is why she has no nest.
