  1. In the penal days the schools used to be under a hedge. There was a hedge school near this parish and the teachers name was Thomas O Flynn.
    They used to draw a pile of stones and make a row and lay a block of wood on top, that was their desks, they used to get pieces of slate for pencils. This school was in the open. They used to speak Irish and French. They used to write on large slate.
