  1. Thomas Aherne, who was known as "Tom the Devil" was a great mower. He would mow about three quarters of an acre in the day. The reason he was called "Tom the Devil" was, because he was the devil for working. He was also noted for making drains, and for making ditches.
    John Aherne, a shoemaker, was a great dancer. His favourite dance was, "The Blackbird." He used by at all the great balls at Glanduff Castle. He was also a great singer. His favourite song was "The Harp that once through Taras Halls."
