- It was in the month of May in the year 1885. It was the 9th of May. The day before was the finest summer day, and the people left out all their cattle. Next day the men had to dig the snow in places. It was 40 ft deep to bring the cattle to the sheds. The worst hay was £7 a ton. Some people took the straw out of their beds to give it to the cattle. The snow held only one week on the ground and it was the richest year in the crops that came since.
