  1. A dark and cloudy sky is regarded as a sign of bad weather, on the contrary if it is raining and the sky is a bright colour it is a sign that the rain will clear away and fine weather will follow. If the sun shines very early in the morning it is a sign of rain. A great number of stars seen in the sky is the sign of frost. When the moon is seen during the day it is a sign of rain. If the clouds appear to travel very fast across the sky it is a sign of a storm. When a rainbow is in the sky it is the sign of rain.
When the wind blows from the north-east it is a sign of snow. When it blows from the south-west it is a sign of rain.
If a great number of plover are seen together it is the sign of a fine Winter. If curlews are heard crying it is the sign of rain. If geese are seen flying high it is the sign of snow.
