    Once upon a time there was a boy working in a house, and a few years before that, the man of the house died.

    Once upon a time there was a boy working in a house, and a few years before that, the man of the house died. One night the boy came in late and he had no light and he took the candle to light it, and it was knocked out of his hand, then he ate his supper and he went to bed. He was not long in bed when he heard the trampling in the kitchen, and then up in the room, and he stood over the bed, and he could see nothing. He thought his bed was removed out from the wall, and some of the bed clothes were pulled out from the bed. Then the noise left the room, and into the next room, and then the noise went away.
