“According to tradition there was a castle in the glen, about three miles from Newtown.”
According to tradition there was a castle in the glen, about three miles from Newtown. It was occupied by the Danes about 900 years ago. But it was shelled from a hill named cnuscín about three miles from it. It is said that it was a woman who fired the shot. A horse and a foal which were grazing on the top of the cliff were frightened when they heard the explosion, and they jumped off - about a hundred feet of a drop on a solid rock of stone. Up to the present day the impression of their hooves is to be seen on the rock.(continues on next page)
