  1. There was a man and a woman by the name of Rourke living in the townland of Corroneary (Aughavas) one time, and they had an only child about three years old. The child began to fail and wither and no matter if the mother fed it twenty times a day it was always crying and “whinging”. One day there came a journeyman tailor to the house to make clothes. The tailor was working in a room above the kitchen, and the mother went out to a heap of potatoes to get some for the dinner. When she was gone the tailor heard music and looking down into the kitchen didn’t he see the child in the cradle sitting up and playing little bagpipes. When the mother came back, all was silent except the child crying. The journeyman tailor told the mother what he saw and told her that her child was taken with the fairies & that
