When a boy would be away for a day the next day he would go Mr. Mahoney would catch him by the ear and ask him "Where were you yesterday? Where are you now? Were you at the fair with your one-horned cow?"

   Its so hard to find anyone now to give description of a hedge school master that we must fall back hearsay.
