- There is a man in Rathea Listowel and his name is Martin Sheehyand one night when he was going home he saw a ghost running across the road. When he came to the place when he saw it his hat was knocked off and blown over the ditch and he head a voice saying to him that any other night he was passing the place to take off his hat and to take six steps before he would put it on again. When he went home there were neighbours playing cards in the house and when he told them the story they were all surprised so then they said they would meet on a Friday night and one of them would walk along the road and the rest would wait inside the ditch and see what would happen. So they did this and when the fellow was passing his hat was knocked off and blown inside the ditch and he heard the words. That minute the fellows rushed out from inside the ditch and into the field where the voice came from and they saw a white thing running into a fort in the field. When they went up to the fort they saw nothing but all their hats were blown off but they heard no voice and it is said that it is a man by the name Paddy Doody who lived longside that fort who died about ten years ago.
