- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)His poetry & prose writings were famous both here & in America. Many of his poems were published in “The Nation”. He died about 1883 owing to a paralytic stroke. He is buried in Clonmeen. Co. Cork.The following are some of his poems: -The Conversion of Saint Coleman, Patron of Cloyne.I
In Cashel’s Hall high festival reigned high at Easter-tide
And to the feast came Prince and Priest, and Chieftain’s in their pride,
The harpers gray smote well that day their harps of Golden Strings,
And clear & free the melodie through vaulted chambers rings.II
On throne of state King Cormac sate, in regal pomp and might,
His sceptre wand in his right hand, with royal robes bedight:
Bright gems and gold from every fold flashed out with dazzling sheen,
His gleaming blade beside him laid, with crown and cloak of green.III
The tide of song rolled sweet and strong from out a thousand chords,
While warrior’s high, with kindling eye, clashed chorus with their swords:
‘Twas now a lay of love, so gay, the Harpers softly played,
Anon of war’s red wounds and scars – of foray and of raid.IV
