come touch the string to that great King, who rules above the sky.
    IX
His harp’s sweet note no more awoke in castle, tower or hall,
No more ye’ll hear that voice as clear, that trilled the hearts of all,
For, filled with zeal for his soul’s weal, he fled Jame’s dark-some snare,
His harp divine on holy shrine he hung with votive prayer.
    X
And mark him now take his pure vow before God’s altar high,
While o’er his face a radiant grace shines forth like orient sky,
Full soon, I trow, his noble brow was graced with Mitre grand,
Upon his head the Cross so blessed, the Crozier in his hand.

    I
Here from old Erin’s green-robed shore,
Where tall, blue mountains shine, and soar,
And flashing floods with glint and roar
    Are surging to the sea___
    Here from Duhallow’s emerald vale
I send this wreath of Shamrocks pale,
Dear Emblem of the scattered Gael,
    Old Ireland’s Friend, to thee.
