    Age - 62 yrs.
    In the time of the Hedge Scools each pupil came to school with a sod of turf and his reader under his arm.
    The master prepared the quills and the ink used was made from Black berries.
    The copies were placed on flat stones. The master prepared headlines on top of each page and the pupils wrote as best they could in this uncomfortable position.

    Daniel Linehan taught school in 1880 in a small thatched house at the end of Richard Cahill's land in the Townland of Knockatuder, Banteer.
    About twenty scholars attended but some of these did not attend regularly. There is a sand pit
