- Some were wooden houses, clay houses, and stone houses. These houses were thatched, and some had wooden roofs. The thatch was procured from rushes, and straw. Some old houses had a bed in the kitchen. It is placed in the cornor, and it is called a bunck [?]. The front of chimney's was made of mortar and in more houses, clay and wattles. They old people did hear of houses having no chimney. Some houses had the fire in the middle of the floor. There are accounts of housed with no glass windows, and in the place of it a creal was used. The old floors were made of clay. The half-doors are common in the district and they were not many half -doors formerly.
Turf, and wood was used for a fire. Candles and rush-candles were employed for giving light at night candles were made locally.- Bailitheoir
