the children hang up their stockings for Santa Claus. On St. Stephen's day the Wren boys start going around. At night they come with music. They have a poem about the wren which starts thus.
"Up with the kettle and down with the fan"
"Give me the money to bury the "ran" (wren)
Then they would take a dance.
At Easter every boy and girl builds an Easter house. Then when Easter Sunday has come the children boil eggs in the house they have made.
On St. Martin's day the people around here kill the young chickens and they also take their soup on that day and on the next day they eat the meat. The people around here also have dances on that night but it is not carried on very much now. It was a great custom around here long ago.
