- The Dillon's castle is situated in Mr Talbots land, in the parish of Kilkenny West. It was built about the year 1440. It is one hundred and eighty years without inhabitants. Cromwell brought it to ruins along with the chapel which was situated beside the Protestant church, about three hundred years ago.Long ago there was a monastery, a castle, a church, a chapel and a market town. According to traditions there is a crock of gold and a treasure hidden under the castle, and that there is a life to be lost at the getting of it. There are tracks of windows to be seen in the castle - some of the windows are closed with stones. The height of the castle is about ninety feet, the land around the castle is high and rocky. There was a monastery in Kilkenny West. It was behind the catholic church. One of the students was beheaded and where his head fell a well sprung up and it was called Saint Kenny's well.
