- There is a small house in one of our fields. It is a small little thatched house made of clay. There was a hole for the ashes. There was a loft over the fire in which the turf was kept. All the floors in thatched houses long ago were made of mud. The people say there are many deep holes in the fields where people got mud to build the houses. Many old houses were burnt owing to the timber being mixed in the building of the chimneys. The chairs were draped with curtains.
- At the back of our house there was an old house which was built of clay and rushes mixed. The fire was in a side wall near the bed room and the chimney was made
of an old churn. There was a bed near the fire which was called a press bed. It was thatched with sallies and straw. The ruins of it are still there. There(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
