    chimneys. The fire was placed on the centre of the floor, and the smoke went through the windows and the door.
    The people had no glass on the windows they closed them in the night with boards or sheets.
    The old floors were made of a mixture of blue and yellow clay. Half-doors were very common with the people long ago.
    Turf was generally used for the fire or logs of dale. Logs of dale were also used for giving light at night, and rushes.
    The windows were made very small, especially with the intention of keeping out invaders.
