    Long ago people went barefoot all the year round. They got a pair of shoes when they were getting married that was the first pair of shoes they got. They were made by the local shoemaker.
    Most of the people went barefoot to mass. The ones that had shoes carried them on their shoulders and then put them on at the chapel door and when they came out again they took them off and carried them home. The shoemakers wife carried all the shoes the shoemaker made to the nearest town and sold them She always went barefoot
