    A man named Major Denis Mahon who resided at Ballinafad, Strokestown, was then a majistrate.
    During a faction fight at Caggle Strokestown, he ordered a regiment of Highland soldiers to fire on the crowd.Two men named Ryan and Kennedy were shot dead beside a house now occupied by Mrs M. Duffy of Caggle, Strokestown. A lone thorn bush now marks the spot where they were shot.
