- A Burial House
When a death occurs all work in the townland is suspended. The house in which the dead person is called a burial house. The remains are always waked for two nights. In the day-time it is the older people that visit the burial house. All the persons, friends, and relation and immediate neighbours, sit till morning.
The men always say prayers at the door, and the women say their's at the bed side, and they sit in the corpse-room. Tobacco and clay-pipes used (at) to be given round but I think there are no clay-pipes at present. Snuff is given to the women to those who take it. Tea is given always to those who come a long journey. All clocks are stopped in the house where the dead person is. The blinds are not drawn in this part of the country.
