  1. Marriage Customs
    A "runaway" was a custom common in this parish up to twenty years ago. A "runaway" meant that a young boy and girl eloped to a neighbour's house unexpectedly and without invitation.
    News of the "runaway" soon spread quickly and the succeeding night all the people provided themselves with bottles and a dance is held for the boy and girl.
    A very fashionable wedding took place at Urrableshanny about twenty years ago. The contracting parties being "Billy Brady" and "Maggie the Dandy". The bride and groom rode on an ass. Here is poem connected with it.
