St. Patrick Day is on the 17th of March In Ireland it is a custom for all people to wear shamrocks. it was St. Patrick who found the first shamrock and on St. Patrick Day in Ireland everyone wears a shamrock in honour of him. Easter is the next holiday. People eat a lot of eggs on Easter Sunday and the children eat Easter eggs which they buy in shops. There is also a fowl killed on Easter Sunday for the dinner.
The 23rd of June is the bonfire night. Everyone lights a fire on that night. Some people light a big fire and play around it. After it is about two hours burning they quench it, because it is said that a ghost comes if it is left burning too long.
On the first of May children gather May flowers and throw them at the door in order to keep the fairies away. It is said that fairies come to the houses and if there are no flowers thrown at the door they will come in and take someone out of the house.
