    church and it ended at the bride's home. The first to arrive at the bride's home got a pint of 'poteen'. But it was not on account of the 'poteen' they were anxious to win the race, but the honour of possesing the best horse in the parish.
    All the old men and women of the parish would be gathered at the bride's home to congratulate the winner, when he came. The old men and women would shake his hand and clap him on the shoulders and tell him it was a 'kind father for him' to have the finest horse in the parish. They would wish him luck of him and pray that he would win again. When all the applause was oer the winner got the 'poteen'. He divided it amongst all the old cronies and then after receiving all of their blessing he went into the bride's house to enjoy his own share of the wedding.
