- The greatest or one of the greatest floods in this district occurred in the year 1873. Heavy rain fell from night-fall all through the night. When morning came great floods had risen and rivers and streams had their banks overflown and the countryside was submerged. The result of this so far as the history of Easky goes left a landmark to its memory. The old stonebridge which spanned Easky River at the workhouse was swept away and this left the main Sligo to Ballina road impassable at that point until a new bridge was built. A family named Greham's, who lived near by were terrified, when the house in which they were living gave way as it was undermined by the force of the water.
