    Rope-making.
    About sixty years ago [“tuighe-bórú”] was greatly used in this country. It was used for ropes and cow-“spantials”. It was got from the thick rushes. In these days men used to pull rushes and tie them in bundles and leave them to season. Then they used to “beetle” them with a beetle, until they were like threads. After this they rolled them up in hanks to dry. In a few days they were fit for use and ropes with three plaits were made from them. In olden times men used to make traces from the [“curghe-barú”] for plough-ing.
