- Altar LinenAltar Cloth: There must be three cloths on the altar for Holy Mass. The Altar Linen represents the linen in which Our Lord;s Body was wrapped for burial.Corporal: A piece of linen, about twelve inches square, which the Priest places on the Altar, and upon which the Sacred Vessels rest.Purificator: A square piece of linen with which the Priest purifies the Chalice and Paten.Pall: A small square linen envelope, stiffened with cardboard, with which the Priest covers the Chalice during Mass.Communion Cloth: A linen cloth laid on the Altar rails, out of respect, and for fear of an accident to the Blessed Sacrament.
