  1. About three-hundred years ago the first road was made in Beare-Island from the east-end to the west-end and part of it is still to be seen running into Ballinakilla mountain and coming out joining the main road now at Mr James Murphy's. The old road is running to the extreme west-end of the island. A few years after there was a passage made through the townland of Greenane, but it was not repaired until forty five years ago. The main road at present was made eighty-eight years ago as relief work after the famine.
    There was another one made through the townland of Ardagh running to the sea at a place called "Rí na h-Eorna".
