- The existence of fairies nowadays is thought to be nonsensical but in olden times they were the common belief of the people. In my district there are five "fairy forts" known as lisses. Three of them are straight opposite each other and the remaining two are in different farms. There is hardly any sign of these lisses to be observed today as the land has been tilled.Usually there is only one entrance now existing in these lisses. Sometimes the entrance is difficult and sometimes it is easy and it is through this hole the people entered and explored the interior. The inside is supposed to be dreary and desolate with icicles hanging from the top and water dripping down the walls. It is said that the Danes built these lisses and lived under the ground and called themselves the fairies.(continues on next page)
