Some years ago people made their own gates. Mostly wooden gates were used in those times. The people also thatched their own houses in olden times. Slated houses were very unusual. There are many limekilns in this district. They were working a few years ago. There are two limekilns in Monavea. There is a limekiln in Ardenteggle. It is owned by Mr Doyle. It is closed down at present.
