    up from the sun : smoke going up straight, the blaze in fire; sun going down late; sky clear ; moon shining early in the night; long rainbow ; smoke clear

  2. Signs of rain: Dark sky in the evening; hollow (halo?) round the moon; stars shooting; chimney not drawing right; house full of smoke; people taking pains int heir legs; birds flying low.
    Signs of good weather: Sun red in the evening; south wind.
    The moon shining brightly is a sign of frost. The wind from the north is a sign of snow. The wind from the north-east brings fever on. The wind from the east is neither good for man nor beast. The crows flying about and the swallows flying low is a sign of snow storm.
